I created Monster Speech Jeopardy targeting: Choosing Appropriate Questions, Gathering Information, Question Comprehension, Formulating Questions, and Starting a Conversation!
This game includes a Jeopardy Board with FIVE categories and point values under each. Each category includes 40 cards. That's 8 cards for each point value...100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 which equals 200 game cards TOTAL! I added extra cards for each category that way your groups of students can play this multiple times without reusing the same questions too often. Also included are "Monster" game pieces to cover the points called by your students and "Bonus Monster Cards" to be used as "Double Points".
Here is how to prepare this game...
- Print all pages on cardstock and laminate.
- Cut apart all cards and sort according to category and point value.
- Cut apart the "Monster" game pieces (seen above) and attach Velcro to back of each piece. Place the other pieces of Velcro over each point value on the board. This will allow the monsters to cover the point values as they are called.
Alternative: If you choose not to cover the point values with the included "Monster" game pieces, you can use a dry erase marker to cross off the point values as they are chosen.
How to play...
- The SLP/teacher will read cards (or allow your students to take turns reading the card) according to which category/point value is chosen.
- After a category/point value is answered correctly, cover the space with the "monster" game piece or cross it off with a dry erase marker.
- Add in one or two "bonus" monster cards to allow your students to earn extra points.
- Keep track of your students' points on a dry erase board and total at the end of the session.
Here are the five different category topics and explanations...
- Choosing Appropriate Questions- Each card includes a short scenario and proposes the question, "Would you ask". The student has two choices (A or B).
- Gathering Information- Each card gives a situation and the student must create their OWN question to ask.
- Question Comprehension- Each card is set up with a question which must be answered with, always, sometimes, or never.
- Formulating Questions- This is my favorite set of cards! Each card tells you which word to start the question with (i.e. Start the question with: Where) AND what the answer should be (i.e. Answer: On your wrist). For the example shown, the student would need to formulate the question, "Where do you wear a watch or bracelet?" There may be more than one correct "question" for each card.
- Starting a Conversation- Each card includes a brief social situation and the student needs to decide what he/she could say.
I hope you and your students love this game as much as my students and I do!!!! Enjoy =)
